Why are Croats obsessed with property and think they have to own real estate? "Apartments are treated like piggy banks in which savings are placed"

A recent HNB analysis reminded us how much Croats love property. Figures show that as many as 85 percent of households own a main housing unit - that is, they have an apartment. Eurostat data, on the other hand, show an even higher percentage - almost 90 percent of Croats live in their own homelands. But the CNB's analysis did not reveal hot water.
